IDCCS
is a faith based organization founded
in1997 to undertake
Community development work to improve
quality of lives of the people in Nyanza
region.
OGANDE TANGNETUO CBHF SCHEME
Founded in June 2003 by a group of 68
members paying registration fees of KES.
50/=
The word Tangne Tuo means “to be
prepared before a bad situation”.
After training facilitation by IDCCS the
members saw the need to set aside a fund
that would enable them access care in
the event that they would fall sick. They
also understood among them that there
is a possibility of many of them not being
sick within the year and so it would be
encouraging to contribute for another
member who would be sick and not have
adequate funds to meet medical claims.
The members have been benefiting from
the year 2005 and they are linked to Ogande
mission hospital which is a KM away from
the Scheme.
Governance
The scheme is governed by elected executive
committee members who comprise of the
chair person, vice chairperson secretary,
vice secretary, treasurer and 7 mobilizers
who are representatives from each village.
They have a written constitution that
governs their daily activities. They have
monthly general meetings in which contributions
are made and new members are introduced
to the others. They also have EXCO meetings
called by the executive and finally an
AGM that is held once annually.
Membership
To date the scheme has a membership of
80 people with each member contributing
having nominating 3 children under the
age of 18 years as a beneficiary.
The scheme has a target population of
over 10,000 people in the community and
through well organized mobilization strategy
intends to reach the whole community.
Human resource
The scheme has a group of 7 voluntary
mobilisers/promoters who are representative
of the villages. Their duty is tocreate
awareness in the community and to also
collect members’ contributions which
are then disbursed to the treasurer.
The executive committee members do all
the day to day duties of the scheme which
include information dissemination, collecting
member contributions, member registration,
payment and verification of claims and
calling for meetings
The management works on a voluntary basis
and IDCCS has given them training on relevant
issues to manage the scheme. The major
challenge here is that CBHF is a very
technical issue that needs technical competency
which the management is yet to acquire.
